Living the Lion King

Well kids- here it is!
The awaited Lion King post.
So to fill some of you in on my travels thus far, for the past 11 days my parents and I have been glamping our way through Southern Africa. First comment on the experience- holy shit, do you know how many elephants are in Africa? Now whatever you think it is, quadruple it. They are everywhere, literally everywhere, walking through your rustic breakfast out in the bush (what they call the jungle here), crossing the airstrip five minutes before your charter plane lands (terrifying) or just crossing the river as you turn a corner and become face to face with a 10 elephant herd. Anyway, the entire trip has been truly amazing. We met some great people, of course everyone has our address and is planning on staying on our couch upon there arrival the "the city that does not sleep". Besides elephants we also saw a variety of other creatures, and even though they are not predators and I know I should be more scared of a 10 pound lion cub, I still cannot stand the Zebra (the national animal of Botswana of which we saw many, even one who was eaten for dinner) for their resemblance to my ol' favorite the horse/ thoroughbred/ killing machine that scares me more than a pickle touching my favorite sandwich. So of the animals we saw a few immediately brought me back to my childhood and my former glory of staring in my first grade production of the Lion King, in which I starred as the lead female, everyone's favorite lioness Nala. After the tenth Warthog and our guide always calling him Pumba I decided to set out on a mission to find the entire cast of my favorite disney film while out in the bush. And here is what I have come up with....Enjoy!

So just as the movie begins with Simba and Nala as cubs, being cared for by their mothers...
So does my journey. As we were driving around one day we happened upon 5 cubs with their respective mothers and watched for hours as they cared for, fed and licked their adorable baby cubs.
As cute as they are, eventually the cubs grow up and here is our favorite leading female (besides me) Nala. Both the real and Disney version (self explanatory differences)

And same with Mufasa (who I'm almost sure is the same drawing as grown up Simba)
Really it is Rafiki who is responsible for the
happy (and incredibly unrealistic) ending
we have to the Lion King
this baboons are everywhere. and no they are not scared of you.
and yes they will take the pancakes from
your plate as soon as you turn your head.

The man with the plan.
Zazu ran pride rock like it was no ones business
The real thing- not as adorable,
but still pretty cute and EVERYWHERE!
Billy Crystal- coming in for the win one more time.
Exactly singing, dancing
and all around my personal fave.
Just remember HAKUNA MATATA!
PRIDE ROCK! where it all goes down.
Fuck yeah I found it.
I even climbed up a mountain to get this picture.

Wow- you have no clue how hard that was to arrange all of those pics like that. Well ENJOY!
Also....
While this doesn't totally have to do with the Lion King...WE SAW A LIONESS EAT A ZEBRA!
HOW FUCKING INSANE IS THAT!!!! the bush I tell ya, a crazy place.

Welcome to south africa!

First views of Africa.
So after two flights totalling 19 hours, with a 12 hour break in London, minimal sleep, no showers (to the point of nearly making unintential dredlocks in my hair) I have finally arrived in my new home country.
First thing to comment on is the people, I hate to be cliche/ generalize but these are the nicest people I have ever seen in my life. They are selfless, helpful, relaxed and always approach you with a smile. This is no walk with your head down and don't make confrontation skidmore/NYC .
The food has yet to blow me off my feet but I haven't left the 5 mile radius of the airport yet so that's understandable. Also everything is so freaking cheap. Love me so rand!
Also got my Nokia- I dont know if you readers/ reader(aka my mom) know this about me but I have an obsession with Nokia phone games. Who remembers snake??? That's right! Well this baby has this game where you have to move a stack of increasingly big rings to the pole two the the right without ever placing a ring of bigger radius on top of one with a smaller. Challenging? yes! But after 4 months I am determined to be an expert- or at least beat level 4 (my current record).

Off to the jungle!

Thoughts/ Qualms/ Worries / Excitements:
- What will I be eating there?
- When am I supposed to pack this week?
- How is this whole bday celebration gonna go?
- Is hiking fun? hard? something I will learn to enjoy?
- What does waking up at 7am even feel like?
