Another eventful August 31st

If you've met me, of course you know about the historical events that have graced the wonderful day that is August 31st, my birthday.
1998- we lost Princess Di (thus far I think i'm doing a pretty good job of fulfilling her legacy, searching for my prince as we speak)
2005- Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans
2010- My first day of College
2012- My first day of my study abroad program in Cape Town for the next four months

So I have begun the journey and so far.....its perfection.
Honestly like camp, but we're all like actual people with academic interests and real opinions who can be independent and not need a bathroom partner.
Currently I am sitting in the common room of our hostel with all 22 members of the SIT Cape Town program- its so cool that we are all together, we all get along really well....for now.
Last night after everyone settled in and ate something, they brought out a cake for me and sang to me for the second time that evening. We then ventured to the hotel across the street, where we took over the lobby and got to know each other over some local drinks. Springbok shots for everyone (delicious, like christmas in a shot- a mix of peppermint something and creamy baileys-esq stuff on top)
Today headed to the apartheid museum, truly incredible and educational. School has officially begun- guess I should get a notebook sometime soon and figure out this year's excuse for not doing the summer reading.
As for tonight...who knows. There has been talk of venturing into Joberg, even thought were a 30 minute cab away) and its the worlds most dangerous city, but most likely hotel take 2 or there is a local casino which Rob (THE MAN- aka hostel owner) said he would drop us off at.

hakuna matata til next time.....readers....reader....anyone?
